“If you believe all human beings deserve a change in life, you believe in everything Spires stands for.”

Donate

We rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses to ensure we can continue to provide vital services to vulnerable and homeless people and offer each of our clients a real chance to change their lives.

Donate money

Every penny helps us to support those affected by homelessness

Whatever the amount, no matter how big or small, we appreciate every single donation that you can give. Your contribution ensures that we can keep our doors open and provide for our client’s longer terms needs by offering them appropriate support, advice  and referral.

£5 could pay for new socks for 10 clients

£10 could pay for food for a service user for a week

£50 could pay for training, support and mentoring of our volunteers

£85 could pay for 6 months of supported key work with a client

Donate items

Many of the clients that we support come to us with very little, by donating clothes, food, bedding or toiletries means we are able to always:

  • provide our clients with a hot meal
  • provide our clients with food parcels
  • offer each client a hot shower and a change of clothes or underwear
  • offer our homeless clients sleeping bags and blankets
  • We also welcome any food and gift donations from churches and schools that you would like to make to Spires and our clients, especially during Harvest Festival and at Christmas.

If you have unwearable items, old sheets or any textiles/fabrics please donate them in a separate bag clearly labelled 'recycling'.  These will be sold to a recycling centre where they are turned into wiping rags or can be sold and processed back into fibres to make new products. Most fabrics are recyclable and textiles get a second (or third or fourth) life. It's better for the environment and is a way for us to get some additional income!

Payroll Giving

Payroll giving comes out of your salary after National Insurance, but before tax. This means that you get tax relief on your donation which can be passed onto Spires. If you’re a higher tax rate payer then this benefit increases. Here’s an example of how it works:

You’re a standard tax payer at 20% and make a monthly donation of £20 to Spires. When the money is taken from your salary you’ll be paying £16 but the remaining £4 will be money you would have paid in tax and not seen in your wages anyway.

You’re a higher rate tax payer at 40% and wish to make a monthly donation of £20 to Spires. When the money is taken from your salary you’ll be paying £12 but the remaining £8 will be money you would have paid in tax and not seen in your wages anyway.

Ask your HR or Payroll Manager whether your company has signed up to Payroll Giving and if so, how you can join the scheme.
